GlycoGene

Authors: Roman Jaksik, Anna Lalik

GlycoGene can predict the set of glycans which will most likely occur on the surface of the cell, based on glycosyltransferases expression level and a database of known glycan structures. Additionally it creates a detailed report on the changes in glycosyltransferase expression levels comparing to specified control sample(s) connecting them to structures in the creation of which they are involved.

The application utilizes gene expression data, in a tab-delimited format, originating from RT-qPCR, microarray or RNA-seq experiments in order to assess changes in the glycosylation profile. The main possibilities of the application include:

  • Identification of glycosyltransferase genes (GT) and identification of changes in the expression levels relative to control sample
  • Prediction of changes in the quantity of certain carbohydrate structures on cell surface
  • Comparison of predicted glycosylation profile between samples
  • Identification of the structures recognized by a specific lectin and GT genes which are involved in their synthesis
